About The Artist
Obsessed with process and technique, working with glass suits me well as an artist. I could spend days in the coldshop, grinding and polishing pieces until my hands can’t take it any longer.
I am drawn to glass because I find myself seduced by the conceptual possibilities of a material that can be transparant yet maintain a strong presence. Most of my work is intended to be intimately held in the
hands of its viewer, evoking an emotion or feeling when it is observed. Small stories are told within the pieces, following personal experiences in my life.
As first year graduate student at The Ohio State University, I am working towards my Master of Fine Arts in Glassworking. As part of my assistantship, I teach a Kiln Based glass class. So far, teaching is very
rewarding and I hope to pursue this avenue after graduation.
I was born on St. Valentines Day. My father named me after a small town in Connecticut (Bethany). That doesn’t really have much to do with anything, but it’s kind of neat. I am also a twin- but we are not
identical.
I am avid drinker of (fruit) tea. I love the feeling of a hot mug between my palms. It is rare to see me empty handed in the winter time. I really like chewy granola bars.
When I am not creating artwork, I can be found reading books or studying a foreign language. I enjoy knitting and listening to jazz music. often at the same time.
I also enjoy painting, but do not do it often enough. Cutting apart nice paper is also a beautiful technique that I would like to do more of.
