Where can I buy a real espresso maker without spending all my money?
I used to work at a coffee shop, and just when I learned how to make and got addicted to real coffee—particularly cappuccinos. I’d like to find an espresso maker with a real and decent milk frother–one without plastic on the end, and a real port. All the ones I’ve found so far require espresso pods, have frothers that are completely or halfway made of plastic, or are way out of my price range ($100 or less). What would you suggest?
Sorry to say this but they are out of your price range. A good base level machine is the Rancilio Silivia which will set you back somewhere in the order of $650 dollars. Alternatively the Gaggia Classic @ $400 is a reasonable option but still a long way outside of your budget.
Also as you will know having worked in a coffee shop, that is only half the story. To make a decent espresso you need a good grinder as well. Most coffee aficionados recommend spending at least as much on the grinder as you have on the machine. Even if you don’t the cheapest decent burr grinder on the market is in the order of $300.
So really your only option is scouring ebay for bargains but I doubt you’ll find a decent coffee machine and grinder for under $100.
