I believe that art and function are not mutually exclusive like many of our comtemporaries seem to think.

This sort of thinking has probably been perpetuated by the misconceptions of the past where absolutes rule. If a thing is functional, it cannot be artistic seems to be the mantra.

However, people like Steve Jobs have proven these naysayers wrong with his vision and creation of the iPod, iPhone, iPad. His vision of minimalism have rocked the world and taken it by storm. He has created, in his simple, artistic way, a whole new generation of followers who will perpetuate his way of thinking way beyond his own lifetime.

Was he the original “inventor” of these gadgets? No! He simple made them more functional and created the demand where non existed previously.

Steve Jobs has shown that Art and function can co-exist, no, are actually complimentary to one another. He just needed to show us the way.
